Event:

Class dismissed? Political representation and participation

Venue:
Committee Room 18, House of Commons
Starts:
04:00pm
Ends:
05:00pm

The seminar will examine the role of background and class in representation and political engagement.

Who represents us and what routes do people take into politics now – how has this changed over the last decade? What role does class play in political decision-making and the types of policies pursued. Does it make a difference to who engages with formal politics at the ballot box and beyond? What trends are we seeing develop and what impact might this have?

The panel includes Jack Dromey MP, Hazel Blears MP, Dr Campbell of Birkbeck University and David Skelton, Deputy Director and Head of Research at Policy Exchange.  The speakers will take a factual look at the issues and share their views on class in politics.
