  • United Kingdom

    The All Party Group on Electoral Reform
    Foster discussion on, and promote the cause of, electoral reform so that election results broadly reflect the votes cast during the elections of the United Kingdom.

    Charter88
    An organisation which campaigns for a modern and fair democracy.  Its particular areas of interest are: voting reform, decentralisation, parliamentary and constitutional reform, citizenship, freedom of information and human rights.  The site contains information about the organisation itself and its current campaigns as well as extensive links to related organisations.

    Fairshare
    Scotland's campaign for electoral reform for local government in Scotland.   It campaigns for the implementation of the Kerley proposals for the Single Transferable Vote for Scottish local elections.

    Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform
    The largest single issue membership organisation working in the Labour Party and with Trade Unions.  The site provides information about the campaign and about a variety of voting systems.

    Make Votes Count
    The campaign to win the referendum on changing the way we elect our Members of Parliament.  As well as information about the organisation and its campaigning activity, there are details of the Jenkins Commission and its recommendations.  Also: Make Votes Count in West Sussex

    SYMVOS
    SYMVOS is a single-purpose pressure group that campaigns for the use of the single transferable vote (STV) in multi-member constituencies.

    STV Action
    STV Action is a website designed to advance the campaign for STV by encouraging supporters of STV to share campaigning resources and debate campaigning strategy. They have created powerful networking tools to enable supporters to communicate with each other and work together on joint projects.

    Conservative Action for Electoral Reform (CAER)

    CAER was founded in 1974, after an election in which the Conservatives won more votes than Labour but fewer seats, many Conservatives came to appreciate the unfairness of the present first-past-the-post system and the need for electoral reform.

    The Centre for Voting and Democracy (USA)
    An organisation which carries out research and disseminates information on how voting systems affect voter participation, accountable governance and fair representation.   Information is available here about the organisation and the Centre itself alongside an excellent archive of articles about PR and voting systems.  There are also useful links to PR groups and resources, particularly in the United States.

    Electoral Reform Coalition (New Zealand)
    A non-partisan organisation which led the successful movement for change to the Mixed Member Proportional voting system (aka Additional Member System) in New Zealand.   It now works to highlight the benefits the MMP has delivered since it was introduced in 1992.  The site provides information about MMP and its specific application to New Zealand.

    Fair Vote Canada
    Fair Vote Canada was established to provide concerned citizens, community leaders and activists with an organisational framework to build a nationwide grassroots civic education and electoral reform campaign in Canada. The ultimate objective of Fair Vote Canada is to gain the support of all federal political parties for a national  referendum on voting systems to be held prior to or concurrently with the next Federal election.  Other useful links in Canada include: Fair Voting British Columbia

    Proportional Representation Society of Australia
    A society which promotes the Hare Clark Quota Preferential method of PR (aka the Single Transferable Vote).  Alongside information about the Society, its activities and publications, there are useful links to related Australian and international sites.
